Name: Liath ((LEE-uh)) Grey
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height*: 5'7
History: Her father was always admired, but it wasn’t unexpected; because even when he was a child, James was the best at everything he did. He never had many friends – all the neighborhood kids were either jealous or afraid of him. He never minded though, it just meant less pests around to distract him from his work. You see, James always had great ideas, but everyone thought he was out of his mind. But he proved them wrong, he sure did. And what was James’ greatest idea? The genetically engineered military weapon.
NGX4863 was just one of many experiments at the hands of Dr. James Conner, but she was different from the rest. She, unlike any other, was James’ daughter herself. Stolen from her mother’s womb as an embryo and mistaken to be a miscarriage, NGX4863 is a genetically mutated human-bird hybrid. Another factor separates her from the rest of the experiments: She was blended with two other species, not just one. And those were the golden eagle and the raven. It’s not known why he used two, but he never did again. Maybe he didn’t like the results. Hell, he didn’t like a lot of things. Whenever a mutant wasn’t perfect, he’d trash it first, and ask questions later. Oh, he kept all the bodies of course, to analyze the data and for spare parts. And the way he terminated them left them unmarked. Every experiment before it’s born is programmed to die at a certain phrase he says. It’s voice controlled, so no one else can do it but him. But it never worked for NGX. He tried many times because of her disobedience to him, and it always failed. By the time he learned how to fix it she was no longer in the lab. Two treacherous scientists of his took the young girl and few other experiments and fled into the night. This was only two years after Liath’s creation. The scientist couple were none other than Jane and Harry Erickson, and they had been conspiring against James throughout their career. They had been planning to expose him, but one of the other scientists found out and threatened to snitch. So they decided that night that fleeing was their best bet. They had come to love toddler NGX4863 and many of the other mutants. So they took as many as they could as they left. But they caused too much of a commotion as they escaped, and the result was Harry being sprayed with another of Dr. Conner’s inventions. But it showed no immediate reaction, so falsely assuming it was a failed attempt, they continued running. All of the experiments they took were normal enough on the outside to be put in orphanages, so that’s what they did. But they kept NGX, recently renamed Liath Erickson to be their own. And they settled, taught Liath how to fly and raised her like normal parents should. But Harry grew sicker and sicker throughout the days. In three years, it was near fatal. Jane had been trying to convince him to go see a doctor for it, as it did seem like the common flu, so he finally gave in. They went to the new doctor in their small town, that had been spoken highly of. They never realized how big of a mistake this was until it was too late. They had run right into Dr. Conner. Apparently his old lab in NYC had been discovered, so he fled to their small town in Nevada. This meeting was purely coincidental, but extremely bad news for the Ericksons. They were slaughtered, right there in the examination room, in front of poor Liath. The hate she felt was tremendous. The only two people she cared about were now gone. So she fought. In the minor scuffle some chemicals were broken, and the spark from a smoker in the room set them on fire. Liath saw this as an advantage, and in her rage controlled James’ shadow and watched as he put his arm directly in the fire. She was able to make him hold it there long enough for severe third degree burns before one of his body guards snatched her. James, in anger that his daughter actually hurt him broke more bottles of chemicals, only these got right in Liath’s eyes. The more she blinked, the more her sight faded away. She struggled to get out of the genetically engineered guard’s grip, but to no avail. So as a group of mutants in another part of the lab were escaping, Liath was being brought back in. The first order of business: punishment. And Dr. Conner’s favorite punishment for escapees? Whipping. So the first night she was back, she got 70 lashes. 20 for escaping, 30 for harming Dr. Conner, 10 for the others’ escaping, and 10 for her other offenses. What a welcome. So the tests and torture began again, only they were worse since she was older and there was more data to collect. Mostly it was things like running through a maze barefoot with exposed wires and searing hot metal. She hated that the most because she needed her feet to see. There were lung capacity tests, where she was put in a tank and nearly drowned to see how long she could hold her breath. Dr. Conner certainly took his time with that one. There were many things, many horrific things that I really don’t feel like listing @.@ She was also put through brain surgery, to be reprogrammed to terminate at James’ command. It was when she was ten that she got the chance to escape. Damion, an albino experiment she had met long before had turned to Dr. Conner’s side, and he was creepily in love with her. It was collection day for James, so he left Damion in charge of Liath’s section of the lab. He pulled his usual creepiness, but Liath played along. Sure enough he let her out of her dog crate. He thought he’d be getting love, instead he got a broken nose. This of course alerted other scientists, and the door to her cell was locked on the other side so she let them come in; scalpel in hand and lying on the floor by the door. When they bounded in, she sliced the tendons on their heels (lucky swing o.o) and ran. Her section of the lab had many cells, filled with experiments just like her. She wanted to help them, but there wasn’t time. Maybe she’d have the chance to come back. She ran through the empty halls and dodged guards when she felt them, and as soon as she hit the exit door she encountered a problem. Feeling around for a bit, she realized she’d need a pin number to get out. The room she was in was apparently a storage room, filled with boxes. So she hid in a corner behind some boxes and waited, hoping she was unseen. She didn’t have to wait long. Dr. Conner soon entered through the door and locked it back with the pin number. With her extensive hearing, Liath would be able to memorize the pitches and get the pin. As soon as James exited the room, she tried it and found it worked. So she was home free, and when she hit the open air she flew. It was hard, she ran into many buildings (haha xP) , but it got her out.
Eight years later she found herself in the clutches of the lab again. Liath met some kid, Joey, and they got in trouble with the law. They were sent to an island in exile and to learn about their mistakes or whatever. Well, a bear mauling and McDonald’s run later, she found out that her and Joey had more in common than either cared to let on. Joey was a part of the group of mutants that escaped as she returned. Neither really liked talking about their pasts and it resulted in a bit of a tussle. Then Liath was taken, and in the lab she was again. Dr. Conner wanted to terminate her, had the phrase ready and everything. But her blindness saved her. It gave him an opportunity to experiment on something he had only tested on animals. So she was back into surgery again, gaining another inhumane appendage. When she woke, she had wolf eyes. And Joey was there. She didn’t know how he got in, and she didn’t care. It musta meant he knew a way out. They talked for a bit, shared their stories, and he got pissed and left. Because she started the fire way back when. Well, she got ten lashes for him escaping, but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t want anyone to know about that, regardless of the situation. But his explosive exit alerted guards, and she was beat and whipped again for ‘attempted escape’. It wasn’t that many, just seven lashes. And by now she had gotten used to it. A while later Joey came back, let her out, they killed a bunch of people, and Liath found out about Dr. Conner being her father. She also found out about him trying to reanimate her deceased mother, that committed suicide because of the lies he told her. It made her sick. So she blew up the lab and left with Joey, hoping to never hear about it again.
Personality: Liath is a lot of things. When you don’t know her, you might think she was a cold and heartless bitch that wanted to blow the world up and be done with it. Well, when you don’t know her that’s exactly how she’d act toward you, if she paid you any mind. Most the time she ignores strangers, she just wants to get on with her life without making attachments, and if you said anything to her she’d insult you. But if you were to start something, she’d kick your ass without holding back a second. She has no mercy when it comes to that. And if you started something with someone she cared about, she’d most likely kill you, no questions asked. But when you do know her, she can lighten up a bit at times. She doesn’t like to admit that she likes a person, even if it’s just friendly like. She pretty well raised herself and thinks that it’s better never to tell your true feelings. Around people she trusts, she more laid back, and her lazy side comes out frequently. She hates having to do anything related to work, but she doesn’t mind if it involves fun (like setting up to rock climb xD) She’s extremely protective of any person she comes to like. Mostly because it’s rare for her to find a person too like. She knows that the way she act prevents her from knowing what it’s like to be loved and junk like that, but she doesn’t care. She figures that it’s better to have never loved at all to have loved and lost.
Likes: Joey, gory movies, the rain, nighttime, the sunset, poking dead things with a stick, gaming (only certain games). children (to an extent), freedom, and weapons @.@
Dislikes: Joey, Damion, sunshine, people, pink, bright yellow, light purple, water, doctors, her dad, whips, and a lot more @.@
Family:
Father: Dr. James Conner - deceased?
Mother: Helen Grey - deceased -> reborn -> deceased @.@
Mutations: Because of her escapades with the lab, Liath is genetically mutated. The easiest to see is her twenty foot wingspan that is mostly a deep chocolate brown. The top of her feathers are chocolate brown with honey undertones and gold highlights, and the bottom of her feathers (which can be seen when the wind ruffles them and shiz @.@ xD) are a shiny black with red streaks and tints. This is caused from having the golden eagle and raven bird species mixed with her embryo. She also has heightened senses – she has extensive hearing and with her new wolf eyes she can’t see as well as the birds she mixed with, but she can see better than the average human. Her scent is also above normal, but she thinks this is caused from having the wolf eyes, as it wasn't as good before the surgery.
Powers: Liath can control shadows, but not in the way you might first think. She can use a person’s shadow (if she or her shadow is in contact with it) to control them, but she isn’t an expert with this so she doesn’t like using it. To her, shadows are mostly a doorway to the shadow world. This world is basically black, and when inside you just float around, but it’s a way of transportation. She can go in one shadow, enter the shadow world, find another shadow that leads to whatever place she’s looking for and exit there. In the shadow world the shadows are like windows. You see and hear anything close enough in that location. She also has a diamond shield for emergencies. Whenever needed, her body can turn to solid diamond, being unbreakable and whatnot. The only downside is that she can’t move while in this form. And last but not least, whenever Liath’s uber angry, she sometimes can emit a sonic wave that’ll knock out any electric device(s) she wishes within range. This is something she hasn’t mastered as well, and she recently discovered it so she prefers not to use it.
